Hobby Lobby, UH office building coming to Avon

Avon Planning Commission unanimously approved site plans Feb. 19 for a new Hobby Lobby retail location and a new medical office building at UH-Avon. Avon will welcome a new 55,000-square-foot Hobby Lobby store to be located in the 35700 block of Chester Road on the same lot as a Panera Bread location approved in January. Hobby Lobby will build a store in the rear portion of the parcel with Panera occupying the front, said Economic Development Director Pam Fechter.

Carl Frey, of the Jacobs Group representing Hobby Lobby, said work on the site is expected to begin around May or June with construction on Aug. 1.Crews hope to complete the work before November.Hobby Lobby is coordinating with Panera Bread on storm sewer services, and City Engineer Ryan Cummins said a common easement agreement between the two parties still is needed.Hobby Lobby will provide a storm sewer system to Panera Bread.The Planning Commission also granted contingent approval to a new 36,000-square-foot medical office building which will be added to UH-Avon’s Healthway Boulevard Campus.

The two-story structure will be built on the north side of the UH campus that currently is a parking lot.Architect Chris Trotta said the building will offer a different look than the hospital’s main structure, working to continue the brand standard UH has set with other outpatient facilities in North Royalton, Broadview Heights and other locations.The addition will add about 60 jobs to the city of Avon and Trotta said the project remains in the design phase.Mayor Bryan Jensen applauded UH’s commitment to Avon and welcomed its continued partnership and collaboration.“What a great partner UH has been,” Jensen said.The building will add a lot to the area and that the process in working with UH has been almost seamless, he said.“Thank you for what UH means to the city of Avon,” Jensen added.
